New Hope, MN - The Northwood School (NY) of the Boys NE Prep League and a team of Massachusetts All Star High School Hockey players competed in this past weekend’s Bauer NIT.

The 2010 version of the Bauer NIT consisted of 3 Minnesota teams (Minnesota Red & White, Shattuck-St. Mary’s), Michigan U-18, Dallas Jr. Stars, Manitoba Prep, and the aforementioned Northwood and Mass All-Stars teams. Many Highly Touted players, including over 20 that are listed on the NHL Central Scouting Report, showed off their powerful skills in this tournament.

“Every year the Bauer NIT brings the stars of tomorrow to New Hope for three days of great hockey,” said John Russo, founder and commissioner of the Elite League. “This year we have an especially impressive group of players from all over North America.”

The Mass All-Stars opened tournament play Friday night, November 5th, in dramatic fashion. After a Scoreless first period, Michigan opened the scoring in the second period. Massachusetts bounced back with two goals of their own by Robert Ganley and Michael Iovanna Jr. Michigan would tie it back up in the third period on a goal by Taler Spencer. After a scoreless first Overtime, Michigan, through the shot of Ryan Urso, put the game away in the Second Overtime and gave Massachusetts their first loss of the tournament, sending them to the consolation round.

Northwood opened the tournament, playing the Minnesota White team. After allowing 4 goals in the first period, Northwood couldn’t recover, losing 8-1 in their first game of the tournament, sending them to the consolation round.

On the second day of play, first game of the Consolation round, Northwood found themselves playing the Dallas Stars. At the end of regulation the game was tied at 1. At 9:12 of the first overtime Northwood’s, Tom Seravalli, netted the game winner putting Northwood into the final game of the consolation bracket on Sunday.

Massachusetts found themselves playing Manitoba on the second day of play. Led by two goals from Tommy Evangelista, Massachusetts sailed to victory 6-0. With the win this put them in the final game of the consolation bracket against Northwood.

On Sunday, Northwood and Mass took to the ice hoping to end the tournament with a win. After a tied first period, it looked like this game would be close all the way through. Northwood stormed out of the locker room for the second period putting 4 goals up on the board, leaving Massachusetts stunned. Going into the third period Massachusetts knew they had to come out hard and aggressive. Northwood proved too much in the third period putting two more goals up on the board with a final score of 8-3.
